Tour Guide

Maine Duck Tours is growing and hiring full and part-time tour guides for one of Portland’s most popular, and fun, historic tours. We operate Maine’s only land and sea tour aboard an amphibious vehicle/vessel. With 15 years of proven demand for the tour in an ever growing market, tours fill up and gratuities are high for informative and entertaining guides.

Location: Portland, Maine
Title: Tour Guide
Reports to: Operations Manager
Pay: Hourly (dependent on experience) plus gratuities
Position: Seasonal, End April through October 23
Hours: Average 12-40 hours per week (full and part-time opportunities available)

JOB SUMMARY
Narrate two to five 60 minute tours per day through the city of Portland and Portland Harbor/Casco Bay in an informative and upbeat manor.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a tour guide your main objectives are to be informative, pleasant and upbeat as you guide your passengers through the city of Portland and Portland Harbor/Casco Bay. Be as informative as you can about our surrounding area and to aide passengers with anything they may need. Your deckhand responsibilities are to assist with any and all emergencies including but not limited to “Man- Overboard”, First Aid and CPR (training provided). Other duties include -but are not limited to- giving the safety speech at the onset of each tour, informing passengers of merchandise available for purchase, answering questions, helping passengers onto and off of the DUCK and aiding the captain with anything needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
-Ability to provide accurate passenger counts and maintain precise ticket counts.
-Keep open communication with general manager and Captain, and assist with the departure of the DUCK.
-Historical knowledge of Portland and area; also the State of Maine as a whole.
-Convey a sense of professionalism in both demeanor and appearance.
-Speak clearly and accurately through microphone.
-Be able to stand for long periods of time with ability to balance in moving vehicle both on land and in water.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years or older. Must be able to pass a drug test before employment and at random throughout entire season, per DOT and USCG regulations.

1 year experience in a position requiring speaking in front of groups.

Captain/Driver

An exciting opportunity to double as a Captain and CDL Class B Driver Operator for Maine’s only Amphibious Land & Sea Tour.  This vehicle/vessel has operated in Portland, Maine and Portland Harbor for over 15 years and is growing in popularity.

(USCG Master Captain (25 ton or more) and CDL Class B or A Experience Required)++Competitive wages DOE, pleasurable highway commute from NH/MA, gratuities, and seasonal bonuses!No public speaking required (separate Guide on board)Seasonal full-time and part-time positions available.
(End April-October)Training, to otherwise qualified, on specific vehicle/vessel provided under highly experienced Captain/Operators who have over 15 years of experience with a variety of DUCKS/DUKWS!

One of Portland’s most fun and popular tours aboard our 13 ton, 38′ amphibious vehicle – operate through downtown Portland, and then Captain the vessel for a 30 minute cruise in Portland Harbor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-AT LEAST 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE operating with CDL B or A
-AT LEAST 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE operating as a USCG Captain
-Clean driving record
-Have the physical ability to bend, stoop, lift yourself into and out of the Duck, slide under a Duck vehicle during twice-daily inspections, and the ability to pull or lift 30 lbs. of weight if required
-Be at least 21 years of age

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Pre and post trip inspections
-Ensure the safe navigation of guests throughout the land and sea tour route
-Hospitable interactions with guests
-Maintain clean record, on land and water
-Maintain trip and safety log books
-Concentrate on SAFE driving while providing the best sightseeing experience in Portland
-NO SPEAKING NECESSARY, just focus on the road
-Paid Training

Day Time Driving Only and Home Daily
Meet and interact with guests of all ages from all over the world

This position is safety-sensitive, requiring a pre-employment drug test and continued enrollment in a random drug / alcohol testing program.
